communities continued...

So in class on Wednesday we discussed two readings from our textbook. They talked about how communities are identities that come into play one role. In the article about tribes, it discussed many different colleges and how there is always this rivalry against foreign schools, or other cliques. And even alumni are being a part of the festivities. Maybe based on tradition?

It also discussed how people mold to fit other identities to "fit in", but how they may be their own identity when not around the other individuals.

communities are...?

From what we've discussed in class, we've learned that communities are groups of people that share a common interest. Our assignment is to step out of the box and observe a community and write an essay based on what we learned. Most organizations, an outsider has some sort of assumptions towards the group. Some ideas that I had rolling around in my head were maybe some on campus groups. I would love to do my own community but that's out of the question. Maybe some other groups such as GLBTA, or the dance team, or maybe even just the people at Bear's Den. There are endless possibilities as to what I could do. I also get to work in groups of 2-3. I'm definitely partnering up with Sarah. We're going to kick ass at this project!
